Before Politics, Scott Turner Was a Cornerback in the NFL and a Mentor
Turner attended the University of Illinois on an athletic and academic scholarship. He switched from being a wide receiver to focusing on the role of cornerback. In the spring, Turner ran track for the school, specializing in the 200- and 400-meter runs.
After graduation, Turner was quickly drafted into the NFL by the Washington Redskins. During his nine years as an NFL player, Turner also played for the San Diego Chargers.
His last team before retirement was the Denver Broncos, and a preseason injury ended his NFL career. In his nine years, Turner played 101 games, completed 89 tackles and two sacks, and intercepted the ball five times—with one earning a touchdown.
Sports and community involvement have always been near Turner’s heart. He founded the Community Engagement & Opportunity Council (CEOC), a family foundation. Their desire is to “revitalize communities across America through sports, mentorship, and economic opportunity.”
