Amy Grant, Vince Gill Reflect on Music, Christmas Traditions, and Nearly 25 Years of Marriage

As for the best gift Gill has ever received from his wife? Grant once contacted folk singer Guy Clark to obtain his original lyrics to “The Randall Knife.” The song was a tribute to his dad, who died at age 40. Gill played that song at the memorial service for his own father, who also died at age 40. Now the framed lyrics hang in the couple’s hallway.

Gill admitted he’s not a very good gift-giver. But he joked that he needs to keep touring to pay for all his wife’s online purchases. “We call it ‘Amyzon’ now, instead of Amazon,” he said. As the couple laughed, they agreed that Gill’s sense of humor is a gift. “Sadly, it keeps on giving,” he said.
