Matt Chandler, lead pastor of The Village Church in Flower Mound, Texas, is set to make his return to the pulpit this weekend following a three-month leave of absence that was both “disciplinary and developmental.” 

On Nov. 3, elders of The Village Church (TVC) in Flower Mound, Texas, provided an email update on lead pastor Matt Chandler’s current leave of absence from the pulpit.

On Monday, Chandler said in an Instagram post, “Jesus I don’t want to do this without you,” going on to share his thoughts regarding the last few months. He also described his eagerness to return to The Village Church.

While not romantic or sexual, Chandler described his online messaging as "unguarded and unwise" and as being characterized by “coarse and foolish joking.” His leave of absence will be "disciplinary and developmental."

“What The Village Church and Acts 29 need from me," says Matt Chandler, "is my heart fully satisfied and alive in Jesus Christ."

The young woman and her family were members of the Village Church when she says she was molested by a children’s minister at a camp in 2012. The woman says she is struggling from "severe depression" as a result of the sexual abuse.

Matt Chandler stepped away from his sabbatical to address claims The Village Church mishandled a sexual abuse case involving one of its former staff members.

“Almost all my understanding of what made America great is because of efforts and the work ethic of people like me,” Matt Chandler says in a video addressing white privilege in America.
