Joel Osteen’s 1,000th Sermon Celebrates God’s Exponential Goodness

Pointing to his own ministry and to biblical accounts, Osteen said God works miracles, provides “supernatural breakthroughs,” and is “looking for people he can trust with a thousand times more.” You don’t have to be perfect, Osteen said, but just have a heart to please God.

Near the end of his 1,000th sermon, Osteen pointed out he was wearing shoes from 24 years ago. They no longer fit, he said, but they’re not supposed to. Likewise, God is a “progressive God” who wants every generation to increase. The preacher told listeners to prepare for “explosive blessings” from God that will “catapult you ahead.”

To conclude, Osteen encouraged people to pray, “God, make me a thousand times more than I am.” Such a prayer isn’t selfish, he said. Instead, it’s “getting in agreement with God” and “allows God to exceed your expectations.”
