16. Buy gifts for a family in need.

To find a family who needs help at, ask your pastor or a school social worker.

17. Sing Christmas hymns and songs.

Break out in song around the piano or play your favorite Christmas album. Then sing loudly for all to hear!

18. Read the nativity account.

Read from Luke 2:1-20 in a kid-friendly Bible version.

19. Share family blessings.

Sit around the fire, drink hot chocolate, and talk about the blessings God has given your family this year.

20. Make prayer hearts.

Cut out hearts for each child. Write a prayer to God on a heart for each child. (Spouses can do one for each other, or everyone can write a prayer on each heart.) Wrap them and place them under the tree. Then open on Christmas morning.

21. Give a Christmas Day surprise.

Buy a gift for a family and deliver it to them on Christmas Day.

22. Make a gift for your pastor.

Pastors do so much to lead and shepherd your church. So take time to thank pastors for their service.

23. Take a family hike.

Pretend you are Mary and Joseph on their way to Bethlehem. Ask kids questions about what it must have been like, preparing to have a baby and having to travel a long way.

24. Make name tags for Jesus.

Place a nativity set on your dinner table. Buy a set of “Hello, My Name Is…” tags. Write one name of Jesus found in Isaiah 9:6 on each name tag (Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace, Emmanuel). During each week of Advent, place one name tag on your family table next to baby Jesus.

25. Make a Jesse Tree or Chrismon Tree.

This tree is filled with religious symbols: cross, fish, crown, shepherd’s crook, manger, lamb, angel, star, and more. To learn more, visit My Jesse Tree.

26. Attend a Christmas Eve service.

This has always been a tradition in my family. I love attending church on Christmas Eve and celebrating Jesus’ birth. If your church doesn’t have a service, find one in your area that does.

27. Make a nativity scene out of play dough.

This is a fun activity for younger kids. Have them make all the characters from the Christmas story. Afterward, discuss each person and their story.

28. Go caroling with your family or neighbors.

Grab a few other families and go caroling. This is a fun way to spread the joy of Jesus’ birth.

29. Read Christmas Love Letters From God.

My friend Glenys Nellist wrote Christmas Love Letters From God. The book tells the story of Jesus’ birth, with a lift-the-flap letter on each page. At the end, kids can write love letters to Jesus. Read one story each night the week before Christmas.

30. Use the Shepherd’s Treasure.

Finally, here’s one more creative idea. Don’t like Elf on the Shelf? Then try the Shepherd’s Treasure. It’s a similar concept with a religious meaning. Children help the shepherd find baby Jesus and the true meaning of Christmas. To learn more, visit The Shepherd’s Treasure.

I hope this list of Christian Christmas activities sparks ideas for your family. May you experience God’s love, joy, and peace in wonderful ways this season!
